  Batumi

  Batumi, an administrative center of Adjara Autonomous Republic, is situated by the Black Sea. The earliest information about Batumi appears in works of the 4^th century B.C. Greek philosopher Aristotle, naming the city as “Bathusi” (meaning “deep harbor”). Today Batumi serves as an important seaport, commercial and popular tourism center. Located in a subtropical zone, it is rich in agricultural produce such as citrus fruit and tea. Industries of the city include shipbuilding, food processing, and light manufacturing. Batumi like Tbilisi is a home to various religious communities. Main sights of the city include Adjara State Museum, Batumi Botanical Garden, dolphinarium, Statue of Medea, a legendary Colchi Princess from the Greek mythology and others.
